This Week in AI: ChatGPT Records Meetings, Hugging Face Powers Robotics on a MacBook, and Reddit Sues Anthropic  - 5 June 2025

1. ChatGPT Now Records Meetings and Integrates with Cloud Drives

OpenAI has introduced substantial updates to ChatGPT, designed to elevate its utility for business professionals. The new “record mode” allows users to record and transcribe meetings, ideation sessions, or personal notes directly within the ChatGPT interface. This function generates timestamped transcripts and summarises key action points, making post-meeting follow-ups faster and more precise.

Additionally, ChatGPT now connects seamlessly with cloud platforms such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Users can prompt ChatGPT to search, summarise, or analyse documents from these drives without toggling between apps. These features are exclusive to ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers.  Read more

2. Hugging Face’s SmolVLA Brings Robotics to Your Laptop

Hugging Face has launched SmolVLA, a highly efficient open-source robotics AI model that astonishingly runs on a standard MacBook. Built using a community-driven dataset, SmolVLA surpasses larger models in both simulations and real-world tasks—without requiring powerful GPUs or expensive hardware.

Its architecture enables asynchronous processing of robotic vision and actions, allowing for faster and more contextually aware robotic movements. By making advanced robotics more accessible, Hugging Face is helping startups, researchers, and SMEs enter the robotics arena without breaking the bank.  Read more

3. Reddit Sues Anthropic Over Use of Training Data

Reddit has filed a lawsuit against AI firm Anthropic, accusing it of scraping Reddit’s content over 100,000 times without proper licensing. According to Reddit, Anthropic used this data to train its Claude chatbot in breach of Reddit’s terms and without paying for access.

This marks the second time Reddit has taken legal action over data use, underscoring growing tensions between content platforms and AI developers. Reddit already holds paid agreements with companies like Google and OpenAI, which include user privacy safeguards. Anthropic, on the other hand, denies wrongdoing and plans to contest the lawsuit.  Read more

4. Claude, the AI, Now Writes Its Own Blog (with Human Oversight)

Anthropic has rolled out “Claude Explains,” a technical blog penned primarily by its AI model, Claude. With human editors reviewing and enriching the content, this initiative aims to demonstrate how AI can co-author educational and technical material.

Posts include examples of how Claude helps developers with tasks like codebase simplification. The effort illustrates how AI can function not just as a tool but also as a collaborative content creator, with potential use cases for technical documentation, product guides, and internal training materials.  Read more

5. Character.AI Launches AvatarFX and Social Video Feed

Character.AI has added a new layer of interactivity to its chatbot platform by introducing AvatarFX, a video-generation feature that allows users to create talking avatars based on photos and scripted dialogue. This personalisation brings AI characters to life in short-form videos.

The platform now also features "Scenes" and "Streams", enabling users to create and share role-played interactions on a social feed. While creative and entertaining, these tools also invite scrutiny around content authenticity and moderation, especially in public or youth-oriented settings.  Read more

Our Take

OpenAI’s ChatGPT update marks a turning point in AI-as-a-service tools. Its ability to record meetings and connect to cloud drives means it now competes directly with productivity apps like Notion and Zoom. For business owners, this means fewer tools, smoother workflows, and smarter post-meeting insights.

On the other hand, the Hugging Face SmolVLA release is a game changer for robotics. The fact that this powerful AI can run on a MacBook opens the door for small businesses to start experimenting with robotics in logistics, retail, and manufacturing—without needing enterprise-level budgets.

Yet, Reddit’s legal action is a stark reminder that the race for data is heating up. As businesses integrate AI into operations, clarity on data ethics and licensing will be crucial.
